Two Australian unions have thrown their collective weight behind the historic decision of Marrickville Council, a local council in inner-western Sydney, to become the first local government body in Australia to support the non-violent Palestinian call for boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) against Israel.

The New South Wales branches of the Construction Union (CFMEU) and Australian Services Union (ASU) have written letters to Marrickville Council supporting their BDS resolution.  Many Marrickville Councillors have received a hostile response to their decision, some Councillors have even received death threats.  The CFMEU’s National body passed its own resolution in support of the Palestinian BDS call in May 2010.

AUSPalestine congratulates the CFMEU and ASU for their stand in solidarity with Marrickville Council.  View the AUSPalestine NEWS page to read the union statements.
